Welcome to Margie's Cafe, a true gem nestled on the ground floor of the Huddart Parker Building in Wellington. This charming cafe embodies the heart of New Zealand's casual dining culture, offering delicious, fresh food at prices that won't break the bank. As you step inside, you'll be greeted by the inviting aroma of freshly brewed coffee and the sight of the vibrant array of dishes displayed in their ample food cabinets. Margie's Cafe is renowned for its simple yet flavorful fare, perfectly capturing the essence of traditional Kiwi cafe culture. Here, you’ll find everything from hearty wraps and sandwiches to tempting hot food options, all made with fresh ingredients and care.

Customers rave about the delightful offerings; Trudy Longson describes her experience as “gorgeous,” praising the chicken wrap for being packed with fresh ingredients at just $6.50! Similarly, Robert Dawson recalls the nostalgia of sliding his tray along while selecting his meal from the cabinets—a comforting tradition of café culture. You can almost taste the indulgence in his voice when he mentions the “brilliant” club sandwich and “perfect” sausage roll.

What’s particularly delightful about Margie’s is the emphasis on quality without the fuss. As Nathan Scott states, it’s all about simplicity and value. This isn't just another fancy café; it’s a welcoming haven where you can enjoy hearty fare in a friendly atmosphere. And for those craving brunch, Fiesole Marks praises their “decent homely fare,” particularly the excellent Eggs Benedict, which adds a delightful twist to your typical breakfast experience.

Thus, Margaret’s Cafe isn’t only a spot to grab a bite; it's a place that transports you to a simpler time—a reminder of what makes New Zealand cafes so special. With its quirky decor and relaxed ambience, it’s perfect for catch-ups with friends or a cozy solo lunch. Just a heads up, keep an eye out for the hidden signage; the café is currently shrouded in scaffolding but don’t let that deter you! With its warm atmosphere and passionate dedication to homestyle cooking, Margie's Cafe truly deserves your visit.

Went to Wellington with 2 friends and found this gorgeous cafe. Wow. What fresh & amazing food at the most reasonable prices. My chicken wrap was $6.50 & really packed with fresh ingredients. My friends had beautiful fresh sandwiches The egg in one was so thick. Just superb. Look around the corner & you will see the hot food cabinet. So many tempting items

Well gosh! What a treat! I am a bit old fashioned at heart, and while I am quite fond of international foods, and will often pick sushi over a pie (for my waists sake!) - Margie's Cafe took my breath, and hunger pangs, away! At a glance, the food on offer in the ample cabinets is very much kiwi cafe fare, which in itself is not a common thing this close to the city centre, but the atmosphere reminds me of a classic tea-rooms visit in a small rural town. Very cosy with good, honest food. I was drawn in (as I often am) by the potato top pie. There was the full range on offer (Steak - with it's cheese, mushroom and onion variants, mince, chicken...all of the classics) as well as pork kebabs, spring rolls and sausages. The sandwiches on offer were large fresh looking and everything was reasonably priced. I spent $15, had a good lunch and a club sandwich saved for afternoon tea. The pie was delishous, the potato light and fluffy with a scattering of melted cheese in top. A nice buttery pastry and tasty mince filling. The pork skewer was fresh, tasty and had a nice texture. The club sandwich was a real treat, I recommend this, as it had large chunks of avocado, which raised this to the next level! If you are in the city and can't make up your mind, call in here. It will make you happy.

We came for the cheap prices but would return for the food and coffee! Wasn't expecting much but our Eggs Benedict's were very decent homely fare and the coffee was excellent! It's signage is hidden behind scaffolding at the moment so be sure to look for it even if you can't see the sign! They deserve the business :)

This takes you back. Old fashioned kiwi style cafe, delightful food, you slide you tray along as you pick your choices from the cabinets. Brilliant. My club sandwich was great, and my sausage roll was perfect.

Amazing value for money (thus the 5 star rating) come here ALL the time for lunch and sometimes for breakfast. Great fresh sandwiches for $7 or fancier ones (e.g. toasted Moroccan spiced chicken) for $9 - lots of variety, plus nice dine-in area and polite staff.
